I did a little reworking of how the heirarchy of the pages on the site
works, which will probably make it a little nicer for those with older
browsers. It was running with a <BASE HREF=""> tag at the top,
the logic being that if I ever changed servers, I could just change the
base path in the top of the page, without going through each link. The
process at home is now automated using some Perl scripting, so the advantage
is little. It also makes it difficult to detect heirarchies in most software,
and Netscape has problems loading the pages locally, since it doesn't fully
support the BASE tag. If you encounter and broken images or links, then tell
me immediately so I can remedy them. I don't bite. --at least not usually.
- September 4, 2002 10:23PM PST
Hey, look at that. I did a little work in Photoshop and whipped up
a cleaner, larger, header. Not only that, the images are actually
smaller in file size than the original (small and grainy) ones. All
hail good image compression. Plus, the table now stretches across
the screen instead of being set at 640 pixels, so I've got more space
to play around with. Now you guys and gals can stretch your arms.
- June 21, 2002 10:45PM PST
Ah, summer. Isn't it grand? I've got a lot of neat little ideas to
implement on this site. Among the needed updates on my palette
are a new welcome page, a partitioned news section (isn't that
an idea?), menu and layout improvements, more quizzes, and
expansions upon the media archive. I've got quite a lot of work
ahead of me--including that on my other websites--but I'll do
my best, or worst, to get it all over before the end of summer,
when I set off for UC Davis.
- May 15, 2002 8:50PM PST
Well, I have to concede now that Lion King III is definitely set to
be released. Actually, I should say The Lion King 1 1/2: Hakuna
Matata, since that seems to be the current working title. I've
actually heard this since late Februrary, but I was hesitant to put
anything up on it until it could be confirmed. Anyway, it will
supposedly tell the story of Timon and Pumbaa, and their adventures.
What finally pushed passed denial is that someone on the TLK-L pointed
out that it was listed on IMDb.com. They're usually
pretty careful about what they put up, so I'm assuming they had direct
contact with a reliable source.
- April 9, 2002 10:17PM PST
Well, after about a month of downtime (much more than expected), the
site is back up and running. After Planet Lion King went down, too, I
was frightened that I'd die of Lion King deprivation. Somehow, we all
made it through, even without fanart, the TLK-L, and thousands of movies
and screen shots to satisfy our cravings... *sighs with relief* Yes,
it's all right.... It's all right.
- March 6, 2002 5:35PM PST
Regretfully, I've just learned that lionking.org is going to be taken
down for anywhere from one to two weeks sometime near the end of this
week. Also, this isn't even the long-awaited bandwidth upgrade, but
merely an unexpected development at its current provider that's forcing
a change to a new one. Brian says, "It should remain about the same,
possibly a little lower."
Just when I was trying to finish up my new
home page, too. I need to turn it in by Friday or I don't pass English.
Don't ask me what coding has to do with English, though. I'll do it,
somehow...
- December 24, 2001 6:18PM PST
Once again, I regret not updating this site more often, but this
coming summer will give me the time for it. I'm slowly starting to
regret taking a schedule this rigorous for my senior year. This'll be
my last Christmas in high school--then we all will truly be doomed.
Anyway, I added some snowflakes to give the site a little holiday
cheer. I hope everyone has a merry Christmas this year.
- September 26, 2001 4:25PM PST
This message has been posted to the TLK-L and sent to at least several
lion king webmasters regarding a re-release of Lion King...

Disney has yet to verify this, but the source seems reliable. Personally,
I can't wait... ;-)
- September 24, 2001 6:17PM PST
Apparently, the generic Lion King Chat service was taken down yesterday.
The owners hope to replace it sometime in the near future with a better
one, but until then, we have to make do. Visit the Chat section for more information. I don't
really mind that much, but it would have been nice if I'd gotten some
notice. :-/
- September 23, 2001 9:13PM PST
In light of the tragic events of Sept. 11, I put a little red, white,
and blue ribbon in the footer of every page. America has survived events
worse than this, but I doubt that anyone ever expected it to happen
again. I heard the news on the bus, not long after it all happened.
When the announcer was frantic and said that the pentagon was in flames,
I thought he was speaking figuratively. My heart goes out to all of the
people who were killed, including the brave rescue workers who died
while trying to save others. This event will not soon be forgotten.
- August 18, 2001 2:30AM PST
A little late-nite/early-morning addition. The site is now a member of
the Savanna
Forum. A Forum section was added
to the Fandom section to make it official.
- August 9, 2001 4:48PM PST
Put the The Lion King PC Game
section back up under goodies. It basically the same as the old one.
- August 8, 2001 11:14PM PST
After a little prodding, I finally got around to putting the quiz back
up. It now has its own Quizzes Section,
and the section will later host other quizzes as well. I'll probably
rewrite the code again, too, since I really want to add some more
features. I also revamped the the header for every page so that not
only the quizzes section is accessible, but each part of the media
section is available with a click. The layout wasn't very convenient
to begin with. I also added an "about me" link that goes to my personal
home page. It never gets traffic anyway. More improvements to come.
In other news, my computer was hit with the "happy time"/HapTime virus
a couple days ago. Thankfully I killed it before it destroyed anything
beyond a few replacable programs in the windows directory. Good thing
I still know how to play with HTML and DOS. Anyway, everything's fine
now.
- July 28, 2001 1:15PM PST
Well, I haven't updated much lately, although there's lots to do. I've
recompiled the entire Lyrics Archive,
which now has a better layout on its individual lyric pages. I've also
restored the links to the MIDIs of each sing in the sound section on
each of them. Since there are around sixty individual pages in the
section, this was much harder than it looks. *pats himself on the back*
- June 21, 2001 2:12PM PST
Okay, I finally got around to recompiling the Links section and its looking fine. I
also put in the Cheats and Codes
section in, which provides tips, tricks, and strategy guides. More
to come.
- June 16, 2001 11:33AM PST
Regretfully, lionking.org went down on Friday of last week in order to
move the server from its provider in Canada to a better one in New
York. I think maybe Paul just wants an excuse to watch The Lion King
on Broadway. :-) Brian didn't know exactly when the move would take
place and only had a couple hours notice to spread the word. Oh
well, it's up now and running fine. It came back up sometime this
morning.
On a much brighter note, Thursday was the last day of my junior year in
high school! Although that means I'm now a senior *cringe*, and a lot of my
friends are graduating *sigh*. Well, I guess I can look on the bright
side: I get to pick on freshmen next year. Plus, I'll get to go with
my class to Disney Land and buy several tons of Lion King plushies. :-)
- May 5, 2001 5:22PM PST
Well, I've fixed up a lot of the Fandom area.
I put up the Role Playing, TLK-L, and TLK Code sections.
- May 5, 2001 11:43AM PST
Hmm... I almost forgot to wish people a happy cinco de mayo! Anyway,
I changed the name of the Interact area to The
Fandom since I think that better describes the features it has. I
also made a few minor name changes in the goodies section. I really need
to get on the ball and finish the bigger sections before I do any more
nitpicking. :-)
- May 5, 2001 11:20AM PST
I added Greg Ludwick's name to the Sound
Archive. I also went through all of the pages on the site (a
little under 150) and made sure that they had the right name in their
title bars. I also added the standard "DOCTYPE" tags to the top of the
source of each page. I also renamed the "Interact" section to the The Fandom, which fits the section a little
better.
- April 30, 2001 10:09PM PST
The site has won two more awards. I actually feel a little guilty
about not finishing it before submitting, but even the prototype is
spectacular. They're posted in the Awards
Archive and on the Welcome Page.
- April 10, 2001 6:57PM PST
Well, everything's looking nice in the Story
section. I might cut the Art of The Lion King section into
more than one page later, though. It's too long....
- April 22, 2001 3:59PM PST
Inbetween a few chores, I fized all the broken links in the Video Archive. It's not a functional as
I'd like, but it's on its way. When I finish putting everything up,
I'll sweep back through everything again and make them a little neater
and easier to navigate. There's much to be done....
- April 22, 2001 2:41PM PST
The Video Archive is up, but I've found
that several of the links are borken. I'll fix it now.
- April 21, 2001 8:11PM PST
The Image Archive is up and running
with a few new features--like the JavaScript popup windows.
- April 15, 2001 1:40PM PST
Well, the Lyrics Archive is completely
functional, although there are some small descrepencies between a few
of the pages. I'll fix that in a while. I also fixed the "Last updated"
notification in the footer.
- April 13, 2001 11:54AM PST
I fixed a bug with the background that occurs in Netscape Navigator.
Everything seems to be running well enough, but I still have several
small unfinished sections, and I need to finish the Images and Lyrics
still.
- April 13, 2001 10:40AM PST
I put up the Desktop Themes area.
I'm still working on the Image and Lyrics Archives.
- April 12, 2001 9:56PM PST
I added several more pages to the Story and
Goodies sections.
- April 12, 2001 6:00PM PST
Well, the new site is up and looking good. I'll be searching for bugs,
but I don't expect many. Let's hope that there aren't any really slimy
ones. Of course some crunchy ones are okay. :-) Ooh... MouseOver..
::drools:: From now on, this section will be creatively deemed
"News" and will also provide information about new events in the Lion
King Fandom. This is one of many directory changes that have taken
place in an attempt to organize this website. It's much easier to
navigate and the design is my best yet. ::grins smugly::
The only downfall is that the media section is not completely finished.
Only the Sounds Archive is functional. Many of the smaller sections
are incomplete, but most should be finished and uploaded by the end
of the week. Just sit tight and hold on.
- April 10, 2001 4:07PM PST
Well, I've had an excellent new site design finished since
yesterday, and it only took a few hours. The hard part is
rewriting the content from the old site. It's coming along
well, though. Plus, I still have the rest of spring break.
::grumbles that it's only 10 days:: >:-(
- March 31, 2001 7:39PM PST
I fixed a few broken links in the Video Archive. I really
would like to apologize for not updating either of my Lion
King sites in the last few months. I've seemed to find a
diversion whenever I get any free time. My HTML has improved
at a staggering rate, and that means I might find the gumption
to overhaul the site again. It'll take a little more than my
miniscule amount of free time, though. I should be able to
start around spring break, and that's not far away.
- December 18, 2000 8:52PM PST
I redesigned the SLKM award and it looks much
better.
- December 16, 2000 3:04PM PST
Added a link to the.lionking.org, which I came across
today.
- December 5, 2000 10:35PM PST
Nothing major... I took the "past winners" list temporarily off
the Win My Award section since
the monthly system no longer applies. When I get a chance,
maybe I'll put one up that fits it properly.
- November 23, 2000 5:20PM PST
I added a live lion king chat section, so now visitors can talk
online. It uses the "standard" chat (originating at tlkchat.cjb.net), which was set
up after Brian took his chat off of lionking.org.
- November 19, 2000 8:15PM PST
Finally updated the webring codes after Yahoo! bought out
WebRing months ago... I was reluctant to do so since it uses a
JavaScript command, which is not supported on some browsers...
*grumbles*
- November 16, 2000 9:19PM PST
I finally adjusted the footer to use an Apache command to tell
the last update time. I'd planned it for a while, but I would
either forget or be too lazy... anyway... it's workin'
fine.
- November 12, 2000 7:23PM PST
I slightly altered the lyrics to "Grasslands Chant" on the
Original Broadway Cast Recording after I discovered that there
is a track on The Power of One Soundtrack called "Woza
Mfana". I may have to change more...
- November 6, 2000 6:39PM PST
Okay... I finally came to the decision that the award system is
slightly flawed, so I'm instead going to just take the
submission, look at the site, assess it, and go from there.
This way, the person submitting the form will get a faster
response, I will not be forced to neglect some sites which
really deserve an award, and the system will be easier to
manage. Hopefully, this will make everyone happy.
- November 5, 2000 2:14PM PST
I cross-referenced all of the actors and animators in the Character Descriptions with the Internet Movie
Database. I also made some very minor revisions.
- November 5, 2000 10:38PM PST
Updated the information in the Lion
King 3 archive. Now lists the executives and other info. in
a nice, clean table.
- November 2, 2000 7:41PM PST
Okay, It seems that the poll is not working as well as hoped.
Plus, I think the thing may not be working... so I took it off.
Maybe I'll add another one sometime in the distant
future.
- October 25, 2000 7:01AM PST
I've written most of the content for the Character Descriptions section. I only
have Zazu, Vitani, and Zira left to describe. Hey, it looks
like I might actually get around to finishing it!
- October 22, 2000 10:26AM PST
I did a nice redesign for the Character Descriptions. It now tells
all of the people who voiced the character and the lead
animator(s). I'm going to rewrite the content very soon. I
should have done it a while ago. It's been unfinished ever
since I uploaded it in April of 1999. Yikes!
- September 22, 2000 7:01AM PST
Well, this site has officially surpassed 6000
hits...
- September 15, 2000 6:51AM PST
Just for the heck of it, I added a little poll to the bottom
of the navigation bar... First Poll: "Which is your favorite
character?" I'll try to update it about once a
month.
- September 10, 2000 9:22PM PST
I finally fixed up the random quote generator on the
main page. After fiddling with it for several days, I finally
decided to just rewrite it and leave nothing to chance. I guess
I had some minor typo somewhere before, because it
worked.
- September 4, 2000 9:09AM PST
Did a little work on the Characters section. I also fixed
up a couple very minor bugs in the lyrics section and other
nearly-insignificant stuff.
- September 2, 2000 10:42PM PST
I fixed that problem with the CGI a while ago, but it looks
like there's still a few minor bugs. I also found out that
the PC Game MIDIs in the sound archive were all broken. Hey,
nobody tells me these things! Anyway, I fixed it...
- September 2, 2000 12:10AM PST
The server at lionking.org went down at noon on the 6th of July,
and just recently came back up. (Darnit!) But, I used it as an
opportunity to learn Perl, so I can write more CGI. You can bet
that I'll use it to improve this site! During the downtime, I
made both minor and major changes:
- I adjusted the site for movement to
http://saka.lionking.org/, where this site will now be
located
- I wrote a neat little quiz script and created the Quiz section. (more to come)
- I finished the FAQ section off
with links to Brian's FAQ, since it basically covers
everything...
- I added a "Built While Listening to The Lion King" button
to the footer.
- Finished the Story section. I
included the descriptions from The Art of The Lion King,
The Lion King Story Book, and added a link to Brian's
script.
- I wrote a CGI script to manage the Link To Me section. It works pretty
well, too. I also added tables to make it look a little
cleaner
- I decided that the Simbas Pride
Images section would be more efficient if it followed the
same scheme as the other image subsections.
- I personally made a great
desktop theme... looks pretty good...
- I added a "past winners" area to the bottom of the Win My Award section.
- I also made many other small
alterations.
One problem, though. Somehow CGI doesn't seem to be working
right now. It seems to be specific to my page on lionking.org,
so I'm assuming I must have done it. I'll track it down Uhh...
*looks at watch* in the morning since it doesn't seem to be
very serious...
- July 7, 2000 7:35PM PST
The Lyrics section now completely follows the scheme of the
rest of the site. There are a few small changes to be made, but
nothing major.
- June 15, 2000 5:10PM PST
The lyrics section is up, but I still haven't had time to work
on it. Now that summer vacation is here(YEAH!), I should have
more time to finish it and work on this site. I just wanted to
put it up before my vacation(see below).
- June 15, 2000 6:40AM PST
I'm getting out of school today and I'll be going on vacation
soon. You will find it hard to contact me after Saturday, since
I'll be leaving on a trip to Washington(the state) and probably
won't return until sometime around July 4(!). I'm sorry to
anyone that this may inconvenience(e.i. Award applicants who
will have awards postponed until I return). Please be patient,
and I'll reply to mail when I return from the trip.
- May 29, 2000 11:46AM PST
Video Archive finished.
- May 29, 2000 11:01AM PST
Simba's Pride section is up.
- May 29, 2000 10:38PM PST
Sounds section is up.
- May 29, 2000 9:39AM PST
Okay, the following sections have been finished: Copyright,
Links, Characters, and Feedback
- May 28, 2000 10:27PM PST
The Link To Me section is
fully adapted to the new site design. Hopefully I'll finish all
of these pages soon.
- May 26, 2000 9:25PM PST
Okay, the Image Archive is up. Did a
little work on thumbnails, nothing that wasn't on the old
site.
- May 24, 2000 6:35AM PST
Uploaded a new, table-based design. It's much cleaner and
easier to use. Not all of the information is up yet, but will
be added within a few days.
- May 11, 2000 6:48AM PST
A landmark event: this site has now surpassed 5000 hits.
<cries> I'm so proud...
- May 8, 2000 7:11PM PST
Uploaded a great new layout in the Images section. This design was
a badly needed redesign and is far superior to the
only-thumbnail approach. This follows in the layout of the
newer Miscelaneous Images
section.
- April 18, 2000 8:04PM PST
Okay, this one's a doozy. The site has been almost completely
overhauled. Every page now follows the same scheme. I've still
got a couple minor kinks to work out, but the site is much more
functional. I also removed the non-frames version, but if you
don't want frames, don't worry, I'll have another overhaul very
soon.
- March 1, 2000 10:28PM PST
Uploaded the rest of the images for the Characters section (namely-Kovu,
Zira, Nuka, and Vitani).
- February 29, 2000 6:37AM PST
Finished transferring new changes in the Characters section to the non-frames
version of this site.
- February 26, 2000 3:52PM PST
Finally began the continued construction of the Characters section. Now has
translations and Simba's Pride characters; more to come.
- February 20, 2000 10:36AM PST
Redesigned Awards section to
follow the newer design scheme.
- February 18, 2000 5:55PM PST
Took advantange of the holiday weekend by finishing the
redesigned Links section. Now
looks much cleaner and follows the newer design scheme.
- February 3, 2000 10:12PM PST
Redesigned the Movies Section. It
now looks much cleaner and easier to navigate and
includes links to videos from Simba's Pride-something
which should have been done long ago. From now on, I shall also
be including the time at which I've uploaded new items.
- January 17, 2000
Finally finished the Lyrics
section and uploaded the frames version. It will be adapted
into a nonframes version soon.
- January 14, 2000
The lionking.org server was down for about a half hour from
10:00 to 10:30 PST. The server is now running on 100Mbit
connections. Hooray!
- December 27, 1999
This site now boasts that it has surpassed 4000 hits and is
currently at 4054. I would have known earlier, but I have just
gotten back from a week-long cruise to Mexico. The new
Lyrics section is nearly completed.
- December 6, 1999
Server came back up after some confusion with the lion king
WWW archive server. I'd like to take this opportunity to inform
anyone who is paying attention that this site will be updated
soon. I have been working diligently at the keyboard dispite
juggling my schoolwork. Just be patient, its going to happen
soon. I promise!
- September 5, 1999
Altered frames version so that the navigation bar would stay
the same width. I think it helps when using a smaller browser
window. I also made a few minor bug fixes.
- August 27, 1999
Well, even though I kept getting hung up on little problems
with my
new homepage, it's up and running. I've fully encorporated
cascading style sheets and all sorts of other little tricks and
it looks pretty good. I won't be able to do any work this
weekend because I'm going on a short vacation. I will get back
to this site very soon. No, really.
- August 3, 1999
I finally got around to making some new link buttons and boy do they look good.
Oh no!!, I just realized that I haven't updated this site for
perhaps the longest time since it's creation. Ahh!!! It's only
because I've been re-writing my homepage. It's almost done, so
I thought I'd update this site. Don't worry, as soon as my
homepage is running, I'll start hacking away on this site. Some
of the sections need a major overhaul. Hopefully it won't take
too long to fix them up.
- July 13, 1999
Remade icons on the navigation bar. They now have a better
qualtity at the same or lower size. Plus, they no longer have
variable fonts. I added The Lion King Game Trainer (by Dr.
Demento) to the Goodies
section. I also added another award to my Awards section.
- July 11, 1999
"Rewrote" main page to take out any bugs that may have been
lurking in it. While I was at it, I added some new features.
It now tells you what browser and hostname you are using along
with a slightly more streamlined design. I also updated all of
my webring code and removed the site from the rings that
weren't worth the time they were taking off the load time.
- July 10, 1999
Redesigned the opening page for the Image Archive so it is much
clearer and easier to read. Also supplies links to other great
image archives.
- June 21, 1999
Adjusted all pages in the non-frames version of my site so that
they use #include commands to add the navigation bars. This
