  Certain that Simba was dead, Scar returned to Pride Rock with the news. He solemnly announced that Mufasa had died a hero trying to save the life of his son, but that both were dead. Sarabi, Nala, and the other lionesses began to mourn. As Scar slowly ascended to the top of Pride Rock, he mockingly proclaimed that it was with a heavy heart that he now assumed the mantle of king. Rafiki, shaking his head in disbelief, watched from a distance and wept.
