The Lion King Storybook At the edge of the plateau, the hyenas caught up with Simba. There was only one way for the lion cub to escape. He leaped off the great plateau down into a tangle of thorns and briars. The thorns were so large and Simba was so small that he easily rolled down under the protection of the thorn patch, where the hyenas did not have the courage to follow. Simba crept away from the Pride Lands, not knowing--not caring--where he was going.
