  Not far from where Simba waited, but far above the top of the gorge, a herd of wildebeests peacefully grazed on the long slender grasses of the plains. Not far from the herd, the three hyenas waited for the signal from Scar. Shenzi saw Scar first, and the hyenas ran toward the wildebeests. Sensing danger, the herd panicked and stampeded down the steep walls into the gorge, straight toward Simba! Mufasa and Zazu noticed the dust rising from the gorge, and suddenly Scar appeared from behind a rock and yelled that Simba was down in the gorge. With no thought for his own safety, Mufasa leaped into the gorge and snatched Simba out of the path of the deadly hooves.
